Korea Hair Transplant Guide — Complete Planning Guide for Foreigners
Everything international patients need to know about getting a hair transplant in Korea — from initial research and clinic selection through surgery day, recovery and long-term results
Before You Travel — Planning Your Korea Hair Transplant Trip

Step 1 — Virtual Consultations
Send scalp photos (top, front, sides, back under good lighting) to 3-5 verified Seoul clinics for free virtual consultations. Each clinic will assess your hair loss pattern, recommend graft count and provide a cost estimate. Comparing multiple assessments before choosing is essential — graft count recommendations can vary significantly between clinics.

Step 2 — Trip Planning
Plan 7-10 days in Seoul minimum. Surgery is typically day 2-3 (day 1 is in-person consultation and CT). Days 4-7 are recovery — you can sightsee from day 3 wearing a loose hat. Day 7-10 is first wash, scab removal and follow-up check before flying home. Budget separately for flights, accommodation and post-op medications.

Step 3 — Pre-Surgery Preparation
Stop blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil) 1 week before surgery. No alcohol 3 days prior. Do not cut donor area hair before arrival — your clinic will shave the required areas on surgery day. Arrange loose-fitting button-up shirts for the days post-surgery (no pullover clothing over your head).
Korea Hair Transplant Guide FAQ
Do I need a visa for a hair transplant trip to Korea?
Most nationalities (US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada) can enter South Korea visa-free for up to 90 days. Check current K-ETA requirements for your nationality before booking. Medical tourism does not require a special visa for short-term treatment visits. Your clinic can provide a medical letter if required for insurance or customs purposes.
What happens after I return home from Korea?
Your Seoul clinic will provide written aftercare instructions and be available by email or WhatsApp for remote follow-up. Shock loss (transplanted hair falling out) is expected at 2-4 weeks — your clinic will reassure you this is normal. Photos sent at 3, 6 and 12 months allow your Korean surgeon to monitor progress remotely.
